Today was the first "normal" day after a four-day weekend with Papa home. Before that, he had been gone for nearly two weeks. School holidays started. All routine has been tossed to the wind. It was bound to get ugly (and in the morning, it did). Thankfully, I had not one but two art projects ready and waiting in the afternoon!
Inspired by the gorgeous spring weather we've been having lately, we made some fish kites! The only large tissue paper I had on hand was a plain brown, but glitter glue and sequins more than adequately compensated for that.
Instructions for this project were found in Nature Crafts for Kids by Gwen Diehn and Terry Krautwurst.
Once the fish kites were set in the sun to dry, tomorrow's intended project was spotted on a shelf. Earlier today, I drizzled white craft glue all over some watercolor/sketch paper (extra thickness is good) and set it out to dry. I thought it would be fun to watercolor it and then pick the glue off for a batik-effect. My girl spotted it and instantly knew she wanted to color in all the spaces with her colored pencils. There was no way she could wait until tomorrow! Away she went!
Both projects look fantastic, but what's better is both girls feel fantastic now. My big girl especially loves art projects, and she was over the moon to have two new ones to try. My lesson for our two-and-a-half-week school holiday: have an art project ready to go each afternoon!
